The 19-01-013 grant funds the follow up to the first phase of rehabilitation work at the Ponderosa Lodge, which was completed in 2017. This grant from SHF will enable La Foret Conference & Retreat Center to continue its preservation and restoration work, as the foundation, original logs, and roof of the building are in need of repair. This work will guarantee that the Ponderosa Lodge will continue to be a meeting place for La Foret’s 13,000 yearly visitors. Originally built as a summer residence for Alice Bemis Taylor-a noted philanthropist and member of one of Colorado Springs’ founding families-the historic lodge now serves as one of La Foret’s meeting places.
